About the Artist
Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Born and raised in Massachusetts, I grew up surrounded by creativity — making crafts with Mom at the kitchen table, filling coloring books, and carefully copying the comics out of the Sunday paper panel by panel. I always knew that I wanted to be an artist, and that certainty never really left me. I was fortunate to attend a high school with an extensive, supportive art department, where instructors who genuinely believed in their students helped shape and sharpen that early ambition into something I could build a life around.
After earning my Fine Arts degree, I kept learning, adding graphic design, photography, and business management to my toolkit. The years that followed were varied and formative: I worked as a graphic artist, a magazine art director, an art teacher, a freelance painter, — even bartender. Each role taught me something different about composition, deadlines, and people, lessons that still show up in my work today.
Everything shifted when I moved to Hawaii in 1988. I launched my own business, Gina Overton Designs, building logos, brochures, and print advertising for local clients. Living surrounded by the islands’ natural beauty reignited my passion for painting, and Gina Overton Designs soon grew to include a hand-painted clothing and accessories line, Designs by GiGi, bringing wearable art into everyday life.
Today, my path has come full circle. I’m a licensed Realtor and Certified Stager, and my art background has proven surprisingly valuable — I often use my own original paintings when preparing a home for sale, adding warmth, color, and a sense of lived-in beauty that helps buyers see a house as a home. I also share many of my originals as closing gifts. Along the way, my husband and I raised two children, now grown, who watched me build a creative business while making a home in the islands.
Hawaii is home now, but New England still holds a piece of my heart, and each year I return for several weeks to live, work, and paint all the beauty it has to offer. When I am not working with clients or exploring interesting properties, you will find me in one of my art studios, enjoying ocean sports, tending to my flower gardens and fruit trees, wine tasting, traveling or enjoying time with family and friends.
